Grilled 1 - 3 ULFC

68036 spectators had come to The Cooking Pot this cloudy day. Jens Schrenk was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Andi Schleiss and Gerwald Anema. The derby had been the talk of Jurong all week and fans of both teams could be seen throughout the stadium. They fielded: Dob - Webb, 中北 (Nakakita) - Künzler, Xin Seng, Mohammad Harun, Xin Lee, Romijn - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

The following players took the field: Armijo - Shirshin, San Sebastián, Del Sorbo, Battle - Mudrinić, Chakúrov, Warren, Buga, Goucher - Makarin.

Grilled Birds entered the field in a 2-5-3 formation. The visitors, United Legends FC, chose to start the game with a 4-5-1 lineup. Grilled used their divine (+5) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of ULFC, taking advantage of their extra-terrestrial level with that tactic. Juan Luis San Sebastián had been given instructions to man mark Chan Ze Han. And he carried his orders out perfectly, following close, reducing the options for his mark. Down the middle came Valentin Chakúrov, making a fantastic play that nearly had ULFC take the lead after 14 minutes, but Massoud Dob preserved the tie. A penalty was given after 16 minutes, allowing the visitors to gain the lead: 0 - 1. Laurent Goucher was the scorer. Andrey Buga of ULFC received a yellow card after 19 minutes for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Grilled tried to even things up by sending a long ball towards the centrally placed strikers, but the visitors' defence got the best of this rather direct style of play. Having taken a hard knock between his legs, Gilbert Webb limped off the pitch in a reduced state of dignity. He could not continue, with 30 minutes on the clock, could this prove costly for his team? This gave Hoàng Trung Quá a chance to take to the field instead. The crowd roared in delight as Vikram Mudaliar finished off a spectacular series of passes through the middle to even the score for Grilled 31 minutes into the match. 1 - 1. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 55 percent of the time.

The terraces were silenced after 47 minutes when ULFC's Monty Warren put the guests ahead 1 - 2, following an attack on the right. A wonderful trick by Vlad Makarin that left 悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita) bewildered really deserved to end in a goal but the keeper made a fine save. Some fine passing in the middle of the pitch, carving open the away defence, should have led to a goal for Grilled, but Vikram Mudaliar's shot went over the bar. Bilal Mohammad Harun made a superb strike after 62 minutes with a shot straight in front of the goal after a long ball through the middle, but one of the visitors' defenders got a foot in at the last second and warded it off for a corner. 68 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 3 as Valentin Chakúrov finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. Florus Romijn did everything he could to get one back for his Grilled, but keeper Iron Armijo denied him with a spectacular block. Chu Xin Lee would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Neeraj Muthyala entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 80 minutes. 88 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Bilal Mohammad Harun gave Bernie Egan a quick hug as he left the field. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 3. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 55 percent of the ball.

Most important Grilled player was Kalki Parvathaneni. Hoàng Trung Quá was a disappointment, however. Vlad Makarin performed admirably for ULFC. Juan Luis San Sebastián on the other hand, had a terrible day.
