Both Four One
It was an eventful Friday night, with Grilled International first getting their V.231 title challenge back on, with a nice 4-1 home result over Switzerland's AC Uettligen. They had been unbeaten in the league thus far, but
Fausto Perono dazzled Gabriele Sarchiapone to open in the 27th, which was followed by
Safari bin Hj Jali's brace. International even had the luxury of a missed penalty from
Didi Reidenbach, as he scraped the outside of the post having sent Zdzisław Chrostek the wrong way.
Azzam Ragab reduced to start the second half off with
Soo Kiong Yau well off the pace, but
Ragib Banović would restore the three-goal lead with a neatly-guided stooping header off
Zaini bin Hj Kaling's mid-height cross. The visitors would have to finish the match without Sarchiapone, who had stubbed his foot badly in the build-up.
Midfielder
Wang Chu Chi felt that International's remaining three points behind Nice litle pingvin and Manchesthair United FC was not a great concern as yet. "We have a good run of fixtures coming up - we'll see after that."
On the national scene, Singapore beat the visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina also by four goals to one, to stay in the hunt for qualification from Group 10. The 3-5-2 lineup boasted a fully Farmer Bunnies defence, as
Morgan Hu,
Kwek Yun Jie and
Wong Ting Yew steadied the ship. The scoring business was left to Bot Team FC's Kong Kian Chee and secret weapon Ranjeet Mohite, who has been making quite an introduction to the world stage, what with another two outrageous finishes.
Wong revealed that Mohite's charisma was rubbing off on the squad. "When he's in the mood, you just get the feeling's anything possible. Even at the top level, not many have that aura."
