Pirated Tan

A route off the beaten track beckoned Tan Woon Jian, as the 18 year-old Grilled International trainee signed for Comoros fourth division club Pirates from Reckenfeld today. An offshoot of Germany's 1.FC Reckenfeld 06, the Pirates had been busy wheeling and dealing this month, having signed six new players while offloading utility man Nakibou Andhumdine Simba to Portugal's Bar Cem Lona.

Busy Bees scout Daud bin Radiman remembered Tan as something of a square peg. "He demonstrated as much promise as we've ever seen, as a defender. However, he insisted on being in midfield, and although he's not done too badly there, he wasn't very distinguished either."

Daud hastened to add that it was still for the best. "Better this than lose interest completely. He does have a very good mind for the game, and if he can meld that with being more careful on the ball, he'll make a nice playmaker."
