Grilled equalled their Supporter Week Trophy first-day start of three wins and a loss from last season, springing into the action with a
Moey Xin Seng hat-trick, in a big 6-2 win over South African III.15 side Bohemen Cape Town. For all of Ivano Acquistapace's considerable qualities, they were unable to bring him into the match until very late on, when he answered
Islom Davlatov's last-minute poach with one of his own.
French sixth division club Olympique De Tiznit were then rolled over by seven goals to nil in a game that should really have been stopped at half-time, and while Swedish Division Four opponents kberga put up stiffer resistance, Grilled were never in danger either.
Chan Ze Han excelled with excellent shooting to notch goals either side of half-time, leaving Dutch midfielder Nicky van der Wal to recover some pride with a faked striking motion that completely fooled
Massoud Dob.
The Birds would meet their match against Al Dawry Al Momtaz club and three-time Saudi Arabia Ruby Challenger Cup victors fc saudimarakis, whose classical 3-5-2 proved too much for Grilled. They were simply an immensely well-balanced footballing unit led by Saudi striking legend Khalid Al-Kalbani, who picked up two goals as they ground Grilled down with impeccable execution of the basics.
Kalki Parvathaneni stole one back with eleven minutes to go, but even he had to concede that fc saudimarakis were good value for the win.
Farmer Bunnies likewise managed nine points, and they would let in but the one goal, in their three wins. Neither Rédemption (Belgian Division Six) nor Seriate United (Italian Division Seven) were anywhere on the same level, as they lost 0-5 and 0-4 respectively. Former Norwegian Ponduscupen safir holders FK Ball-i-hatt fared marginally better, with Iranian veteran Faraz Afsoun outclimbing
Wong Ting Yew in the 65th minute to record a consolation, in a 1-4 defeat.
The Buns' loss would come against German Division Six club FV Bühl "Alte Herren", and had to be accounted as something of an upset. Bühl managed the feat thanks to their opener from a corner, some heavy determination against the Buns' counters, and an 86th minute penalty awarded for what looked like unintentional handball on
Brendan Leung. Toño Huallpa sized
Vivian Grubenmann for what seemed like half a minute, before sending an unsaveable penalty high into the left top corner.
That blemish aside, the day had been a wonderful advertisement for
Mushtag Al-Nameeri, as the Yemeni striker found the net in all four fixtures. "
Ibrahim Zahran Al-Maashany will have his work cut out for him, to return to the starting lineup." Buns supporter Lo Kai Ming predicted. "I don't see Mushtag rested much if at all, on this form."
As for Grilled International, they endured a mixed record, starting brightly with two victories against K-Town Bruisers (Swiss Division Five) and Diablos Rojos del Toluca F.C. (Mexican Division Five). Things then turned sour quickly, with a 1-5 loss to German fifth divisioners GQ Lupi, followed by another 1-3 defeat, against Polish Division Four side Lubuszanin Trzciamajka.
All in all, it wasn't the greatest response by goalie
Querubim Santos Couto in defence of his claim to the starting lineup, having being more than slightly inconsistent in most of these games. It was difficult to find a standout from amongst the outfielders too, although
Wang Hanxuan's diligence from an unfavoured left wing position probably deserved some recognition.
In between, International would also crash out of the *Planet Cup*, after finishing third in Group H due to a 0-1 loss to Greek fourth division club Killer Bees FC in the third and final group stage round. International seemed to have settled for the point they needed, when Dany Tum won the Bees a penalty in the 75th minute, as International reorganized after a substitution. Alexander Zaliani polished it off, and there was not enough time left for International to save their campaign.
