Grilled 6 - 5 reUnited

Weather conditions were fairly good for football at the stadium today. Starters: Dob - Egan, Webb - Knzler, Davlatov, Xin Lee, Muthyala, Romijn - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

They fielded: Kimutai - Lindegaard, Kusk, Meyer - Andreasen, Holt, Sander, Baatrup - Risager, Rosenberg, Zwaanswijk.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas Olympia reUnited lined up in a 3-4-3 formation. Grilled used their magical ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Grilled took the lead 18 minutes into the game by 1 - 0, as Chan Ze Han elegantly received a long range pass through the middle, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar. Grilled solidified their lead at the 24 minute mark, as Bernie Egan dribbled the ball through the opposing central defence and scored to make it 2 - 0. reUnited reduced the lead after 28 minutes to 2 - 1 as Ove Rosenberg easily chipped the ball past the home side's keeper after a dazzling play from the right. Jean Lindegaard finished off a quick charge from the left of the field by chipping the ball just past the home side's keeper, making the score 2 - 2 29 minutes into the match. 2 - 2 was the score after the first half. Grilled had most of the ball, with 60 percent of possession.

Grilled's Islom Davlatov got himself booked for a foul. Grilled's opponents know to be wary of Florus Romijn's speed, but it made little difference as he flew past the defence 76 minutes into the game. Only the keeper could stop him - and he did with a perfectly timed dive! After 78 minutes a well-practised indirect free kick routine by Grilled was easily anticipated by the defenders. The players forward were so well marked, they were left with few viable options. Kalki Parvathaneni would have preferred to play on, but his coach decided otherwise. Jos Luiz Velho entered the game for Grilled as the match clock showed 89 minutes. 89 minutes into the match, the referee signalled for a Grilled substitution. Prokop Mottl came on for Chu Xin Lee. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 1 minute beyond the regular 90 minutes. After 89 minutes, Grilled's lack of experience resulted in the team's loss of their edge at the end of the game. With the scores being level after 91 minutes, the match went into extra time. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 59 percent of the time.

The Grilled players spent the break getting a rerun of the team's tactical organisation and regained a solid organisation when the game started again. 107 minutes in, Grilled's Vikram Mudaliar received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. Given a free kick in a difficult position after 115 minutes, Grilled tried a variation that they had practised in training. The kick was sent into the area just in front of the keeper. However, the defence were on their toes and allowed no space for a finish. There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty shoot-out to settle the result.

Grilled's Cyril Knzler was relaxed as he smoothly put the ball in the net. 3 - 2! There aren't many players that have the cheek to take a penalty like that! reUnited's Jean Lindegaard showed he was one of them, as he made it 3 - 3. A confident Neeraj Muthyala of Grilled put the ball right where he wanted, but Joram Kimutai was right there for the save. No goal. reUnited's Ketil Meyer showed he has nerves of steel when it comes to penalties, easily changing the score to 3 - 4. Grilled's Florus Romijn made no mistake. Joram Kimutai didn't have a chance. 4 - 4. Boy, does Frede Baatrup of reUnited know how to treat a football or what?! He's curled that shot past the keeper and into the top corner of the goal - a great penalty! 4 - 5. Oooh - how unlucky! Grilled's Prokop Mottl attempt hit the underside of the bar, but rebounded down into the grateful arms of Joram Kimutai. The score stays 4 - 5. reUnited's Klaus Sander penalty shot was very well placed but Massoud Dob went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 4 - 5. When it comes to placing a ball precisely, Islom Davlatov is a real wizard. He put it safely away for Grilled to make the score 5 - 5. reUnited's Mads Risager didn't look like he was confident as he stepped up, and produced a badly struck penalty - right into the arms of Massoud Dob. The score remained 5 - 5. Grilled's Jos Luiz Velho didn't hesitate but Joram Kimutai managed the save, resulting in an unchanged 5 - 5 score. reUnited's Huibert Zwaanswijk looked like he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball, but unfortunately his shot went wide of the left hand post. Still 5 - 5. Oh, the sweet feet of technical Chan Ze Han... His left one gave Grilled a lovely goal. 6 - 5. reUnited's Ove Rosenberg cockily booted the ball with a short-and-fast instep. The penalty, going just wide of the mark, didn't produce a goal. The match ends 6 - 5. The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt Chan Ze Han. Bernie Egan was a disappointment, however. reUnited's best player was Mads Risager. On the other hand, Huibert Zwaanswijk's play was disheartening.
