Buns' Pride
There were no fewer than five Farmer Bunnies players on the Singapore Lions' roster as they kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign, and they would comprise the entirety of the Lions' three-man backline against Jamaica.
Tham Leng Teck,
Kwek Yun Jie and
Lau Chang Wan were chosen to start - Lau after a long absence from the national setup - with
Wong Ting Yew and
Morgan Hu on the bench.
Truth be told, they didn't quite cover themselves in glory in a very poor start that saw the visitors 3-0 up by the 31st minute. Kwek was definitely not entirely at ease in central defence, and Lincoln Evanson's constant dropping off Floyd Mullins was a very hard pairing to mark.
The Lions would claw their way back to a draw in the end, and Lau for one was just glad to be back in the mix. "It's always a great honour to play for one's country, but more than that, we have a very competitive squad. Everyone knows each other, and if the bigger countries still think we're pushovers, well, I won't discourage them."
