Grilled 1 - 7 Xaviers

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and The Pragmatic Elegant Next-gen Intricate Stadium saw a crowd turnout of 68187. Buddhika Jayaratne was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Valeriy Losin and François Domange. The match took place on neutral ground. Grilled fielded: Germanakos - Mangoye, Jaška - Baena, Teck Fu, Kwang Tse, Khairul, Trindade - Chitre, Tokarz, Ze Han.

Xaviers's lineup was: Mesquita - Bauer, Yadav, Sobrado - Alioto, Chu, Chin, Sethi, Cernari - Ilarraza, Domşa.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas St. Xavier's FC lined up in a 3-5-2 formation. Grilled used their supernatural (14) ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. With 15 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending. Levi Chin put the ball away for 0 - 1. Sorin Domşa was unable to continue, following a slight injury to his right knee after 16 minutes. The replacement for the injured player was Antonio Monari. A corner kick created great disorder in the penalty area with a goal nearly scored by Randall Bauer. At last, Xaviers's Broderick Chu was able to backheel the ball in. 0 - 2. With 21 minutes played, Xaviers put themselves up 0 - 3 after an attack from the right, caused by a defensive blunder. The scorer was Vasco Cernari. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Gandhik Chitre challenged the visitors' central defence eagerly, producing a good chance 30 minutes into the game as he went for a through ball. But, as so many times before, the guests' defensive efforts got the best of it. The referee showed Xaviers's Bruno Sobrado the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Gandhik Chitre almost seemed to dance around Levi Chin, his movements were so smooth. Unfortunately for Grilled, his finish ended up on the wrong side of the post. With 37 minutes played, a quick exchange of passes on the left wing freed Randall Bauer of Xaviers to slip through the defence and score another goal for the visitors. That made the score 0 - 4. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, Riccardo Alioto would have put Xaviers up another goal 44 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Grilled's fans were urging them forward as they tried to get back into the game, and their vocal support was rewarded 44 minutes into the match as Orest Tokarz ran onto a beautiful ball played through the visitors' defence and slotted it past the keeper to reduce the deficit. 1 - 4. The teams went for the halftime break at 1 - 4. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Xaviers, with 60 percent of the ball.

46 minutes into the game, Grilled wanted to bring some new energy to their game. Hwang Teck Fu gave Lim An Keng a quick hug as he left the field. After 52 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Rafael Ilarraza who increased Xaviers's lead to 1 - 5. 54 minutes into the match, the visitors put themselves ahead 1 - 6 as Antonio Monari finished off an attack from the left with a spectacular scissors kick. After 56 minutes, Orest Tokarz showed no mercy as he ran straight at the Xaviers playmaker, mowing him down. He could stay on his feet himself, but only managed a feeble shot that didn't trouble the keeper at all. 59 minutes into the match, Broderick Chu came through the middle and almost added to his team's lead, but the shot went wide. After 60 minutes, Xaviers's Antonio Monari burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 7. Lim An Keng went down after twisting his left ankle in minute 64, but was able to continue the match none the less. After 65 minutes, Grilled had a decent chance. Orest Tokarz, always a physical player, had created some space for himself where there used to have been a defender. He got a shot away, but nothing came of it. As the 75 minute mark approached, the Grilled coach decided it was time for a substitution. Chan Ze Han reluctantly made way for Kalki Parvathaneni on the pitch. With Chan Ze Han no longer on the pitch, Kalki Parvathaneni became the new set pieces taker. As the captain was no longer on the pitch, Kalki Parvathaneni took over the role of being the Grilled captain. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the pitch, waving Atang Mangoye off the field. Mohsen El Khateeb took his place. Berto Mesquita left the field with a smile on his face as he was substituted 86 minutes into the game, as his team was in the lead. Law Chin Jun was the replacement. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 4 minutes. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 7. Xaviers enjoyed most of the ball, as they maintained 60 percent of possession.

The most dominating Grilled player was without a doubt Lim An Keng. However, Mohsen El Khateeb made a disastrous appearance. Xaviers's best player was Nikhil Sethi. Vasco Cernari turned in a dismal performance, however.
