Elves Over Mermaids
The Supporter Week Trophy competition concluded with Grilled Birds claiming a winning record of 5-1-4, which left them 10474th of 28894 entrants. They did however begin with their fourth defeat on the final day, to Swiss Division Six top seeds FC Nightelves.
Dimitris Germanakos endured a barrage of shots from the Nightelves in the first half already, and it was tough to fault him for letting Swiss midfielder Kusisa Serrano's incredible twenty-eight yarder through, after an otherwise faultless goalkeeping masterclass.
There would be a 4-2 win against Italian VII.142 club CSKLa Rissa next, with
Chan Ze Han putting the Birds up in the second minute despite the overbearing marking.
Aw Keng Chuan kept it up with a gutsy run and shot, with
Gandhik Chitre then taking over with his guile in front of goal. The curtain-closer at Canadian IV.50 representatives Empire of Mermaids would be called off, with the Mermaids apparently having better things to do.
It was not as great for the Buns, who ended 15662nd on 4-2-4. Comoros III.2 contestants FC Vialli raised their game as they prevailed 2-0 arguably against the overall balance of play, with Riccardo Migliori opening early from a free-kick follow-up,
Amaya Ravula and
Edgar Popienia making a hash of a host of chances, and Loann Fontenelle snapping up a poor dribble attempt out of defence by
Arun Ponnusamy.
There was more of the same against Hungarian V.70 leaders Békés Csabai Rosszfiúk, who scored all four goals in their 3-1 win; Former national youth player Márk Répási found the net at both ends, actually putting the Buns ahead in the third minute from his backheader, but came good eventually. Farmer Bunnies then finally got their victory versus H.A.L VI.284 side Sim Sala Team, with
Vitaliy Efendiev reminding of his indispensability in the 2-0.
Grilled International crashed quite horrifically to a 3-1-6 record on the last day, losing all three games to finish 22956th. To really rub it in, they would not even score in any of those, as they fell 0-7 to Netbank FC (Danish III.10), 0-4 to Eiros (Spanish VI.473) and finally 0-3 to Héhalom (Hungarian IV.8), the last of whom had star man Gergely Szita notch a hat-trick.
Head coach
Didi Reidenbach conceded that things were not likely to look up anytime soon. "It's a difficult time for everyone at the club." was all he could say.
