Swamped At The Death
As most expected, Grilled Birds put Snohodez down for a fourth straight league win, with the question being whether they would rack up enough goals to overtake Mayuyu AKB48 at the top. It turned out that the answer was no, but mostly due to Mayuyu themselves crushing EF City for six, ahead of the two clubs' big clash next Sunday.
"Mayuyu have made it hard for us whenever we played them these couple of seasons." head coach
Tian Yonghang reminded. "And who can forget their 4-0 win in the latest meeting? Don't be fooled, they are surely saving something in reserve!"
Phantasm Hotspurs kept with the pattern by stomping tpyers 8-1 away, though they did lose Sreenath Shasthri and Cheong Leong Kiong to superficial bumps in the process. Controlar thus pulled level with tpyers on six points after their own 5-0 victory against LAVINO QUAY, which had Low Eng Rong and Li Kok Kuan restore some confidence with two apiece.
It was tough going for the Buns in III.9, as they came so close to holding Mangrove Pittas back, only to crumble at the last asking.
Amaya Ravula's magic volley in the 16th minute had given them an unlikely lead, that
Arun Ponnusamy came within an inch of doubling. Bogdan Kocić however plinked a rebound home after 36 minutes, which had the Buns hanging on for a point... until a collective defensive oversight saw Mario Erinazu bury the winner in injury time.
This went down especially hard for
Toh Eng Guang, who was closest to Erinazu for that fateful last play, but Bunnies boss
Vishnu Tallapaka judged that the entire backline was at fault there. "I won't try to pretend that it was unavoidable, because it clearly was. But all the back five had a part in it."
Mangrove Pittas stay in second then with nine points, as Bot Team FC saw Really McCoys off 4-1, to continue setting the pace. Brighton UK and Leeds Celts inserted themselves in the top half with big away wins too, 4-1 at WhiteSandsMechs and 5-1 at Singapore Foodies respectively.
As for Grilled International, it was an easy 5-1 over Ortega&Cabrerizo at Burung, with
Zaini bin Hj Kaling closing on a brace. This however got them no closer to FC Bojons, who demolished the Panthers 8-0; it did however take them level with Amelinho Kickers on goal difference, however, as the Swiss club managed to put just two past an obdurate Ponyhof.
