It was mournful faces all in a row on the Grilled bench as the disastrous final ten minutes played out, and head coach
Djan Bacelar admitted that the team were stuck in a deep, deep rut.
"I can't fault the players for not trying, because as you could have seen, they worked hard - tremendously hard - for most of the game. If you have to ask, I think it's become a matter of confidence now. Restoring it will not be a simple matter."
Judging by the fans' reactions, they were not overly impressed by Bacelar's statement, and there have already been more than a few calls for his head. Grilled's immediate challengers were definitely not sympathetic either, with Arcturules downing AkA FC 3-1, to move three points clear of the Birds.
The leaders pulled away too, with Claseek and CoCoTeaTree Islanders still neck-and-neck, after identical 2-1 wins over third and fourth-placed The EV and Club Dinosauria respectively. Surprisingly, there has been no standout scorer yet, with three players on five goals, and a host of others - including
Gennady Dvorak and
Rinor Isufi - on four.
It was much brighter for the Farmer Bunnies, who however dipped below BENG UTD on goal difference, despite edging Sporting VDF in a bitterly-contested match. The first half somehow finished scoreless despite an unusually large number of attempts by both teams, and it would take
Daniel Nguyen's brace, hit in the 57th and 60th minutes, to secure the away points.
