Sasaki Steal
A day after the underpriced sale of youth forward Yap Chuan Lee, Farmer Bunnies were on the receiving end of some largesse themselves, as they signed the previously-unknown former Purmei Inc. stopper
Herman Sasaki for a mere S$88000. German Division Six club Dike Coyotes had originally snagged him last week for close to half a million, but head coach Jaakko Sorvasto was emphatically unimpressed with Sasaki in his midweek try-out in midfield, and put him right back on the market.
Elias van Dal was confident that the Coyotes' loss would be the Bunnies' gain. "The lad was played completely out of position. It was little wonder that he could not have had much impact." the Dutchman said. "To be honest, our initial bid was just a feeler, and we were surprised when nobody tried to top it. Not that we're complaining."
The 17 year-old Sasaki himself, who is of mixed Japanese-German ancestry, can hardly wait to erase the memory of his less-than-stellar introduction to the professional game. "The German league was an... interesting learning experience, but Singapore's the place to be for me. For now."
