Wet Willy
Hwang Lights Up
Tahiti IV.12 leaders U.S. Willy Nilly have come far in three seasons under Dutch head coach Nassim Khiati, but they were still far from a match for this visiting Birds side.
Hwang Teck Fu, so often neglected amidst his peers, would make his case for a first-team berth today, as Polish midfielder Walerian Łach was unable to hold his team's expansive 4-3-3 together.
Countryman Arkadiusz Czyż would lead Willy from rightback, but the evidently terrible form of Colombian partner Gilberto Chaparro would be a constant headache for Czyż. The width in the hosts' setup did help them cope with Grilled's wingers, but at the cost of suffering against more direct incursions.
Hwang Teck Fu would strike the first blow for Grilled in the sixth minute as he circled inside from the right, but his decent effort at the near top corner would be parried by homegrown keeper Keoni Parau.
Hwang was having one of his better days against a clearly off-the-pace Chaparro, despite that, and he would soon have a hand in the first two Birds goals. Twenty minutes in, a square ball thumped over to the other side of the box would find
Chia Kwang Tse planting it into the bottom of the far post with a well-aimed sidefoot, and the very next minute would see Hwang go it himself with a high kick from
Toma Tamiya's loft; there could have been more power on that, but it remained sufficient to get past Parau this time.
Toma was next to get his name up in lights, as he revelled in the low-stress environment with a surfeit of creativity. True, many of his moves ended prematurely, but this allowed him to wholly bypass the Willy backline in the 36th minute, for an easy 3-0. Walerian Łach tried to strike back on the restart but was denied by
Cameron Law, after which a riled-up Keaka Huuti was booked for harrying
Gandhik Chitre on a delayed free-throw.
The second half started more brightly for Willy, and Arystan Shalkar had a couple of legitimate chances early, from Swedish winger Ottar Håkansson's deep crosses.
Damian Hutter stood firm, unfortunately for Shalkar, but
Aw Keng Chuan would be in turn stymied at the other end too. A powerful drive on the hour would be blocked by Parau, while another excellent shot 76 minutes in came off the post... to be converted at the other end by a far-ranging Arkadiusz Czyż.
Aw would be off not long afterwards for
Teo Chuan Yong, which was also about when Grilled unleashed fully on their unfortunate foes. Willy's wide players were about busted by this time, which saw
Damian Hutter apply the exploit first, as Czyż was unable to stop Toma from squeezing a cross in, after 82 minutes. Chia and Hwang then racked up additional cheap goals, before
José Luiz Velho and
Radovan Jaška took over from Toma and Trindade.
