Tobi Tanked
The 5-0 away victory returned Grilled Birds to the top of the S-League, which set up a high-stakes early-season clash against defending champions Sarcastic Fringeheads. The Fringeheads are also on ten points, after digging deep with another last-minute winner - this time by Wu Jinglong - against Haha, which to
Moey Xin Seng only emphasized their unmatched mentality.
"Let's face it, they have dominated the Singaporean scene these past few years for very good reason." Moey said. "They are saving those points that other clubs might have given up on, they can dig deep like few other teams I've seen. But, that doesn't mean we are conceding anything, of course."
The usual suspects would take the other fixtures, as Arrogancae claimed three very valuable away points from The EV, who were left in sixth place despite current Golden Boot leader João Infante Amanajás managing a hat-trick. Arrogancae will however be without Dutch attacker Gisbert Odewald for a week or two, due to a tender knee. Over at Kandang Harimau, Bot Team FC earned their first points of the season in exacting style, as they hammered FC Barca Singapore 5-3 in a high-level exchange.
As with Grilled Birds, Farmer Bunnies climbed to the top of their league too, as they put in a workmanlike shift to defeat FC Tobi 74 by two goals to nil. This was a game in which they could not afford to slip up, not with Tobi having shipped wins to all three of their opponents thus far. In the end, it wasn't too tough with
Mushtag Al-Nameeri and
Ibrahim Zahran Al-Maashany supplying the goals, although it could have easily been more had they been more clinical.
This was enough for goalkeeper
Vivian Grubenmann for the moment, though. "Three points, a clean sheet, top of the table. It doesn't get much better than this for me!"
Arcturules would be overhauled after their 2-2 draw with Phantasm Hotspurs, who will be the Buns' next league opponents. Elsewhere, surprise package kala811s rose into the top half by edging Marina Sailors at their MarinArena, as on-fire Albanian striker Yiorgos Deskos showed the way with a double, to take his goal tally to five thus far. Real Batigol meanwhile picked up their first-ever victory in this division, as they came from behind against Tecos Foreign Legion to triumph 2-1.
Things aren't looking up for Grilled International, sadly, as they sunk to a third successive loss, this against Torino-based Juvëntus in the Battle for Division IV.
Ragib Banović was about the only International player to come out of this with any credit, as he kept his wits about him on
Wang Chu Chi's advance in the 27th minute, to equalize following Ruben Simoni's opener.
Juvëntus would tear International apart on the counter in the second half to win 3-1, however, any it was left to Munich Giants to salvage a single win for IV.59 against IV.53, of the five clubs taking part from each league.
