Manchester 1 - 3 Grilled

Dark skies made the crowd of 60188 at Old Trafford a little nervous, but the rain held off. Jarkko Uskali was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Stefan Gustavsson and Thijs Geluk. The following players took the field: Monteiro - Oriol, Langagergaard, Mekker, Tevreden - Ottoade, Simões Ribeiro, von Weizäcker, Chin Chi - Ablaev, Nastasi.

They fielded: Dob - 中北 (Nakakita), Webb - Muthyala, Davlatov, Egan, Mohammad Harun, Romijn - Mudaliar, Ze Han, Parvathaneni.

It was to be a contest between two different football philosophies, since the home team started the game with a 4-4-2 formation while the visitors instead opted for 2-5-3. Using their counter-attacking abilities was the strategy of choice for Manchester on this day, taking advantage of their world class level with that tactic. Grilled used their mythical ability to concentrate their attacks in the middle of the pitch, rather than on the wings. Grilled had a good opportunity to attack on the wing, but remembered their instructions to go for middle attacks. The visiting Islom Davlatov was booed thoroughly by the home crowd 13 minutes into the game, after he broke through the middle and scored, resulting in the visitors taking the lead. 0 - 1 was the score. 15 minutes into the game, Manchester seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion and they fell to a inadequate level of organisation. Bilal Mohammad Harun came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle. He tried to lift the ball over Luis Monteiro but overcooked it and hit the bar instead. A counterattack by Manchester after 30 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but Dominik von Weizäcker, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. Had it not been for one of the home defenders, Kalki Parvathaneni would have put Grilled up another goal 37 minutes into the match with his audacious lob from the right wing. Islom Davlatov's fine footwork caused nothing but headaches for Fernando Oriol. The keeper wasn't fooled however, and confidently scooped up the ball. The crowd was on its feet 44 minutes into the match, as Manchester's Jerónimo José Simões Ribeiro found himself unmarked in front of the goal after a dash up the left side. He calmly put away the 1 - 1 equaliser. After 44 minutes, there was a bit of a mixup on the field as Manchester found themselves out of position and their organisation level dropped to poor. Vikram Mudaliar had a good opportunity to give Grilled the lead as he charged down the right and struck the ball towards the top corner, but the home team's goalkeeper made the save. 1 - 1 was the score after the first half. Possession in the forty-five minutes was dominated by Grilled, with 64 percent of the ball.

The coach gave his players an extra tactical briefing during the break, and after that Manchester had passable organisation. After 55 minutes, Grilled sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached 悠太 (Yuta) 中北 (Nakakita), who had plenty of space to place a well aimed shot - 1 - 2. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air. Gilbert Webb wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for Hoàng Trung Quá after 70 minutes. With Gilbert Webb no longer on the pitch, Bilal Mohammad Harun became the new set pieces taker. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Ulrich Langagergaard from Manchester a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 72 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Grilled's Bernie Egan made it through the home team's defence on the right hand side 79 minutes into the match. After rounding the keeper, he only had to place the ball in the unguarded goal when a defender slid in and cleared the ball off the line. A lovely run by Grilled's Florus Romijn left his markers for dead and should have resulted in a goal, but the finish went just wide. After 85 minutes, Grilled's Chan Ze Han burst through the central defence and let loose a cannonball of a shot, scoring for 1 - 3. Content with how the game was proceeding, the Grilled coach let José Luiz Velho replace Vikram Mudaliar after 89 minutes. It was announced by the referee that he estimated stoppage time to be around 1 minute. This meant there could still be an extra attack or two left in the match! The match ends 1 - 3. Grilled had most of the ball, with 64 percent of possession.

Luis Monteiro performed admirably for Manchester. Sim Chin Chi on the other hand, had a terrible day. Grilled's top performer was clearly Chan Ze Han. On the other hand, Hoàng Trung Quá's play was disheartening.
