Grilled 3 - 0 newbies

53424 punters turned up at The Cooking Pot, and despite threatening clouds on the horizon, no rain came. Olav van den Bergh was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Victoro Chirino and Dennis Brewster. People from all over Jurong had joined up for the derby. Lineup: Dob - 中北 (Nakakita), Trung Quá - Künzler, Davlatov, Ze Han, Parvathaneni, Muthyala - Xin Seng, Mudaliar, Xin Lee.

The following players took the field: Aik Beng - Long Kok, Tung, Ting Hao, Wan Yau, Wen Jin - Seng An, Han Ah, Chee Tong - Pham, Johnson.

Grilled Birds started the game in a 2-5-3 formation, whereas newbies are newbies lined up in a 5-3-2 formation. Grilled mostly ignored the flanks in favour of their ability to attack in the middle, taking advantage of their utopian level with that tactic. newbies were relying on their supernatural ability to counter-attack. Grilled were determined to attack in the middle, even their wing attacks ended up centrally. Kalki Parvathaneni caused the crowd to go mental with his goal up the middle after 26 minutes. This gave Grilled the 1 - 0 lead. The opposing supporters gave the referee an earful when he only gave Islom Davlatov from Grilled a yellow card after a mistimed challenge from behind 28 minutes into the game. That was far too lenient! Neeraj Muthyala had a fantastic opportunity to put Grilled up another goal 37 minutes into the match after a pass through the middle set him free, but he fired just over the crossbar. newbies's counterattack was impressive and was only stopped by a shocking foul. Somehow, the referee's cards remained in his pocket - a terrible decision! Brendan Pham's resulting free kick was easily saved by the keeper. Grilled's Kalki Parvathaneni got himself booked for a foul. Seetoh Aik Beng was caught napping as Cyril Künzler lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper's arms. Grilled's Islom Davlatov saw his fine effort strike the top of the bar following some good work up the middle by his teammates after 42 minutes. Martin Tung was in no condition to play on. He left the field limping after 43 minutes, with his right thigh bandaged. Mok Nie Chao had already been warming up, and came on for Martin Tung. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Grilled had most of the ball, with 62 percent of possession.

After 47 minutes, a couple of quick and successful challenges followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area by Vikram Mudaliar might have resulted in another goal for Grilled. However, Seetoh Aik Beng made a spectacular save. With 48 minutes gone, Wong Long Kok suddenly found himself completely free on the right wing when a counterattack by newbies caught their opponents by surprise. Only a great save by the opposing keeper prevented him from scoring. Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, as they moved the ball from the wings to the middle with startling regularity. Cheers filled the stadium as Hoàng Trung Quá broke through the visitors' central defence to put away the ball to increase the lead to 2 - 0 to Grilled. The Grilled players could smell victory in the air. Hoàng Trung Quá wasn't in a hurry to leave the field as he was substituted for 雄輝 (Yuki) 入江 (Irie) after 60 minutes. Vikram Mudaliar should probably have put his team up another goal after 68 minutes after breaking through the middle, but some great goalkeeping by Seetoh Aik Beng kept the visitors in the game. A counterattack by newbies after 69 minutes could have resulted in a goal, but Peh Ting Hao, coming in on the left, couldn't get the shot off. After 80 minutes, the away team failed to deal with a good exchange of passes on the right, and 雄輝 (Yuki) 入江 (Irie) gave the Grilled supporters even more to cheer about when he increased the lead to 3 - 0. As the match nears its end, the referee has deemed it appropriate to add 1 minute as stoppage time. The match ends 3 - 0. Possession in this half belonged to Grilled, who controlled the ball 61 percent of the time.

Grilled's top performer was clearly Moey Xin Seng. Chan Ze Han on the other hand, had a terrible day. Seetoh Aik Beng performed admirably for newbies. On the other hand, Peh Ting Hao's play was disheartening.
