There were not even the usual whistles as
Krystian Rykowski silently made straight for the tunnel once the final whistle was blown, a sad reflection of just how few Birds fans were left. His teammates remained largely supportive, though word has it that a few are running out of patience.
"It's not really fair to put it all on Rykowski." midfielder
Lee Lee Hao said. "This is about two levels up from what he's used to, and it was just bad luck that
Wong Tian Han got that injury."
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim, who had just scored a last-gasp winner for the national team against Israel a couple of days ago, was more pointed with his comments. "It's great that Wong should be back by next week. The team just isn't the same without him."
While any hopes of challenging for the title have long since dissipated, Grilled are surprisingly still in the top half of the table at the half-way point, sharing the spot with an improving singnet_utd, who hammered Grilled's upcoming Cup opponents Charis FC 3-0. Greek wingback Tellis Rouvas chose an incredible time to notch only the second hat-trick of his career, beginning it with only eight minutes remaining.
Be Champions FC installed themselves as favourites by handing Pudgy Penguins their first league loss in a 3-2 away win at The Igloo Dome, which saw their international midfielders come good. Isle of Flames kept within touching distance, as they edged Pearl Divers 2-1 despite an early knock to winger Lajos Rajeczki.
Bunnies ate a fifth straight defeat in III.5, but at least scored against Marina Sailors, with
Ermis Ftenopoulos converting a textbook corner setup in the 37th minute.
Aswad Mohd Jafni and
Sofian Azfar had a great first half in their league debuts at the fullback positions, but could not last the ninety, and Sailors' national U-20 alumni Tan Teck Tze schooled the duo late on.
