Low On Back High

It could hardly get worse than yesterday's blankout, and it didn't, as Grilled Birds picked themselves up to power through their final set of three games, winning all. Italian Hattrick Anniversary League club Barbieri 4 were first up, and gave a good account of themselves despite losing 1-3. Moey Xin Seng scored twice and Bilal Mohammad Harun once, the latter while missing an entire host of chances, without exaggeration. Scottish veteran striker Lachlan Sergeant was Barbieri's battery up front, and scooped up a rebound off Giancarlo Marazzina's powerful header off the bar, to ensure they didn't return home empty-handed.

Chad Thach had missed a couple of excellent chances early on too, and he would have to wait until the next match against Puerto Rican IV.38 favourites Malibu Football Club PR, to set the record straight. Cristóbal Ojeda would give Malibu the lead at the break following a superb break from the left, as Bilal's profligacy continued with Lau Chu Soon another culprit. Thach's awkward 52nd minute finish would see Lim An Keng add another from a tight angle, however, and Moey was again on the ball as he dribbed past Joseph Arroyo and through in the 64th, for another 3-1 result.

Lim would start alongside academy best buddy Chia Kwang Tse finally in the final fixture against Curaçao Division Three side Caribbean Dolphins, which would also be the Birds' toughest test of the day. Thach would again open, taking but seven minutes to take it past Alojzy Szarlej this time, and Bilal's follow-up in the 22nd minute hinted at a rout. The Dolphins rallied, though, and pulled one back through a sweet combination polished off by Pedro Isidro. Bilal came through on the left in the second half, and Guillermo Vellio's big right-footed hit would not be enough to steer his club level.

This had the Birds finish in 16660th place on a 4-1-5 record, which was not as terrible as their supporters had feared. "I think we can build on this." The Green and Yellow Army's cheer head Tan Kiak Chian said. "Not like we have got much choice."

Farmer Bunnies had a fine run-in too, as they first beat Brussels VI.919 club Edhan fc by two clear goals. They had been nipping at Sebastián Cervantes' goal through the first half, and Billy Camperio finally broke the deadlock on a 75th minute counter. This was sufficient to lure the opponents out for the finishing blow from Demitri Liu, three minutes later.

Another late Camperio goal would be on the cards against Danish Division Four outfit FC Nicos, as he salvaged a 1-1 draw, three minutes from time. Former national U-20 star Peder Lau had pressed Sunil Patel into a fatal error in the 12th minute, and they were very close to riding that to victory. The Buns then won it late versus Swiss V.196 side Dynamo Altnau, with Vitaliy Efendiev the hero at the death this time.

This left Farmer Bunnies in 8891st place with four wins and four draws, just outside of the top ten list for Singapore, whom were led by St. Xavier's FC in 376th place. It was also better than Grilled International's final standing at 14515th, as they equalled the Birds' record no thanks to a disastrous third day. It began with another narrow defeat, with two chasing goals not enough to catch French Division Five representatives FC BADTTW, who saw out a 4-3.

A three-all against Belgian V.156 outfit Blue-Black PUMA F.C. would be next, as International found themselves on the wrong end of a comeback instead. Banović, Hardi and Atzenhain had them 3-1 up after half an hour, but Tommy Dongelmans' slowness in recovering would see Marcin Tumasz claim one in the 74th minute. The Dutchman tried to make up for it, and in fact clipped one off the crossbar shortly after, but Jerôme de Monge would equalize after some intricate passing in injury time.

International ended it with a 1-5 hiding at the hands of former Russian Ruby Challenger Cup winners Mishki Foxt, as the Division Three club hammered them from beginning to end. Ragib Banović had to wait until the 89th minute to get the consolation, which might well have been all but gifted by the opponents.

This was nothing foreign to the International fanbase, sadly. "I sort of guessed it might end like this, after that great first day." travelling supporter Alexander John Andrews shrugged. "Good thing about having low expectations, is that you're never disappointed."
