Black Stars Shining

Richard Agyei would indeed make his national debut for Ghana before turning thirty, as he played the first hour of their 4-2 win over Malaysia, in the Hong Kong-hosted World Cup. Admittedly, his job at attacking leftback had not been easy, and Malaysia were 2-1 up when he departed; however, Young Boys Volta striker Daniel Adutwum would shortly turn the tide.

Ghana remain in a precarious position in Group G, although they did rise above Thailand off the bottom on goal difference, and level with the Czech Republic and Bolivia on points. Ireland remain hot favourites to qualify for the next round with a determined 1-0 result over Bolivia securing three straight wins, as Malaysia finally stumbled after shutouts against Bolivia and Thailand.

For Agyei, this was just a beginning. "I'd almost forgotten what it felt like to pull on the shirt." the former youth international enthused. "Next up, the Czechs!"
