Richard Braveheart
Ghanaian Farmer Bunnies superstar
Richard Agyei would depart for Bulgarian Vissha Liga leaders Brave_Hearts today, with the Buns receiving a fee of close to S$12.7 million for their Number Four. Brave_Hearts have two national league titles - with the latest coming three seasons ago - and are defending the national cup, with a Hattrick Masters run soon to come.
This was nothing less than what Agyei deserved, as longtime teammate
Lim Su Liang recognized. "Richard's given some of his best years to us, and he really shouldn't be slumming it in Division Three, no offence to the other clubs. I think we all really want to see what he can do at the highest levels, while he's still in his prime."
Agyei professed to be a bit torn about leaving before having helped the Buns to a major trophy, but accepted that it wasn't going to be. "It's been a great decade despite that, we got to the S-League, made some waves, but it wasn't quite enough. All the best to those who will remain!"
The transfer was of course made with a view to keeping Agyei in his national setup, and this would attract a host of highly-respected suitors, beginning with former Slovakian Emerald Challenger Cup winners Márna snaha. The fourth division side were soon joined by Spartans Allstarz F.C. (Swiss Division Four), Spirit Football FC (Indonesian Division Two) and Golden Eagles Ghana (Ghanaian Division Two), and it had to be said that a homecoming to line up alongside former German internationals Wilhelm Fuechsl, René Jakobs, Walter Frosch and Alexander Beierle, had to sound very attractive.
Brave_Hearts's promise of international club competition would eventually trump all other considerations for Agyei, though. "It's now or never." he said. "The Masters is something I've wanted to try since forever."
