Bonhoure Bonjour

This might have been a dead rubber for the group stage of The Global Trophy, but both teams knew that it would hint as to their odds of doing well in the following rounds - and on that end, French Division Six representatives Grognards de Paris would have to be by far the happier. The former Trophée Pantelis winners left it late to impose themselves on the Birds, and from Jérôme Moulis' satisfied look at the final whistle, it was not clear whether he had intended that all along.
Having won their first four league games, Grognards de Paris had nevertheless endured straight setbacks in domestic cup competition, with Calais FCHF knocking them out of the Trophée Saphir a couple of days ago. That said, it was not like Grilled Birds were doing any better. Macedonian centre forward Toshe Shutovski would provide the Parisians' goal threat, as usual, ably supported by Baptiste Bonhoure and Benoît Martin from the wings.

Enrique Baena had just come through a tough test against Magnuskärr FC, but displayed few signs of weariness as he nibbled fearlessly at Grognards' right defence - the wonders of youth, one supposes. Chan Ze Han would be dragged well to the right by Carlos Lucas Pereira's attentions in the third minutes, but he would then manage to turn the Portuguese defender inside-out, and release a short cross to Baena, who had read the situation well. The angle remained against him with goalkeeper Moreno Pedicord having it covered, however, and it was all Baena could do to chip it narrowly wide.

Those initial introductions done with, it would be Grognards to hold their lines, with Chan continuing to provide the main vexation for their four-man defence. Stefan Rapajić doubling up together with Pereira when required extinguished much of the danger from Chan, however, through it did leave them slightly vulnerable to assault from elsewhere. Aw Keng Chuan flaunted his oft-underestimated range in the 14th minute as he needled it through for Gandhik Chitre to chase, and while the Number Nineteen was bundled aside, Paulino Trindade ducked inside to finish it in his stead.

If that opener showcased the raw potential of Grilled's trainees, most of what followed next would not reflect particularly well on them. Grognards would regularly expose their movements as not being particularly sound, as they cut deep into the Birds' territory with unsettling frequency. Benoît Martin took a dodgy-looking bump from Gilbert Webb to throw off as he threatened to score in the 19th minute, and Bonhoure duly took up the mantle with a beautifully-hit curler to the far post - that was barely kept out by Dimitris Germanakos with his fingertips.

Kalki Parvathaneni had been especially quiet for this game, having been shadowed all too thoroughly by Walther Olsen, and Lim Ah Keng would not fare much better after coming in. In fact, it would be the Danish Olsen - more commonly deployed as a forward - to record Grognards' equalizer by the 59th minute. Old habits die hard, and once Bonhoure's remarkably-sharp bullet pass from the left got to him, Olsen's strike from just inside the box looked almost automatic.

Moulis would quite openly instruct Martin to stay wide as the match went on, as Grognards began to display their ambitions towards a win here. But first, they would have to survive a scare from Moey Xin Seng, who had been biding his time too. Age had only increased the Grilled captain's cunning, and he left Shutovski for dead with a flashy turn after a corner. Moey admirably kept his feet after being caught by Shutovski's trailing leg, and hammered it off the crossbar. The referee would not pull it back, having allowed play to go on, but would card Shutovski after the fact.

Moey was just about spent by then too, however, and would go off for Teo Chuan Yong shortly afterwards - just on time to watch Bonhoure break through from the touchline. This was coming, really, with Enrique Baena barely hanging with the 26 year-old speed merchant by this point. Bonhoure had a couple of legitimate outlets as he drove inside in the 77th minute, but it was enough for him to simply go across Bhavya Panigrahi, and clip it low past Germanakos.

Grognards would make a change of their own now, as Olsen went off for teenager Glen Guinel, who immediately immersed himself in snapping at the heels of whoever had the ball. This nearly brought instant results with Shutovski brushing the post after a turnover, but in the end, they would have to wait until injury time to seal the deal. The Birds had thrown everybody forward in the hopes of taking something from this match, leaving literally nobody but Germankos to face Graziano Teghil on the counter.
