Punting On Pećanić
It might not have had the bells and whistles of Grilled's just-completed multi-million dollar deals, but
Ahmed Pećanić's arrival on a free transfer might well be no less significant, or so
Djan Bacelar suggested.
Describing the 17 year-old Bosnian as a steal, Bacelar recounted his scoring in four of his five games played for Turkish Sixth Division club Elazığspor, who coincidentally had conceded a tournament walkover to the Birds a few seasons back. "There's no doubt about his finishing instincts, it's innate."
While neither Bacelar or Pećanić talked about it, the local news had apparently covered a dressing room incident between the player and some of his more established teammates, which might explain the former FC Penzioneri trainee's eagerness to move on, after just three successful weeks. Pećanić will retain the No. 31 shirt he wore at Elazığspor, though.
Desportivo de Coimbrões (Portuguese Div 6) and F.C. Spejderne (Danish Div 6) were open to taking Pećanić in too, but he felt that a break from Europe was what he needed. "It's good to see the world, and Grilled play at a high level. I hope to enjoy myself here!"
