Lee Let Loose
Exciting seventeen year-old playmaker Lee Leong Lai headed on a modest S$150 000 move to Italian Division Ten club Chimici F.C., with Dutch Division Six side Dopeheid also eager to get him on their books. Grilled's head scout Tham Beng Li, who gave him his start at the Chicken Wings, was of the opinion that the fee was low for Lee's potential.
"I haven't seen many midfielders who are too much better than him in my time here, and that's saying something." Tham praised. "If he had been half a year younger, he might have been worth closer to a million, that's how fickle the markets are."
Lee's successful transition to professional football was an inspiration to current Chicken Wings trainee Krishnan Adabala, who like Lee had originally been rejected by impossible kids, the youth division of Ropelearner FC.
"I was devastated when I heard that I had not made the cut, but Lee remembered me from training camp and suggested that I try out for the Wings." Adabala recounted. "Thinking back, it was probably a blessing in disguise!"
Competition is always severe in the ranks of the regulars, however, and Grilled have only just released two of their former trainees in Mohd Shas Abdul Muhaimin and Mohd Faizal Bampe, after they had not been able to get a game for the Birds. "They were frankly going nowhere." head coach
Han Lik-Tsun said.
