First Time's The Charm
Moey Gets Taste
Not many players mark their debut by leading their team out before a guard of honour, but this was just what
Moey Xin Seng experienced, after he was entrusted with the captain's armband for the Charis FC walkover.
Sadly, there were few remnants of the once-formidable home side left, but hometown favourite Li Li Yao - for some strange region, hailed as "Lee Kuan Yew" by the support - was on hand to see Grilled out. Chow Guang Kian and Cheah Wen Wen had also stayed on, despite the acrimonious boardroom struggle that had seen the club spiral into administration.
There was little to do but to mull around and shake some hands as the league organizers carted out the silverware. Moey took advantage of this interval to return the armband to its rightful owner, and
Tian Yonghang ascended the low platform to lift the Birds' fifth Division Two trophy.
The runners-up would also be represented, as Dietmar Dunkel and Jørgen Ove of Batok Earthquakes and FC Barca Singapore respectively were present to collect their shared Golden Boots, Ove having just helped FC Barca pip the Earthquakes to second place with a magical hat-trick against Rovers. Batok for their part were held by a feisty newbies side, who lived up to their swashbuckling reputation by battling to a 3-3 away draw.
Tian then received a pleasant surprise when he was presented with an unofficial Silver Boot, in recognition of finishing third in the scoring stakes. "Just what I needed to complete my collection." he joked.
