Grilled 3 - 2 Esbao.
The spectators didn't look too happy about the constant raining at the stadium today. The rain was pouring down, it was the kind of weather favoured by strong players who stick to simple football. For players possessing of speed or technical skills, the day really was as grim as for everyone else. They fielded:
Germanakos -
Keng Chuan,
其材 (Qicai) -
Reddy,
Thach,
Kwang Tse,
Khairul,
Teck Fu -
Chitre,
Ze Han,
An Keng.
Lineup:
Brugna -
Lenhard,
Felix,
Palmboom -
Lacy,
Solar,
Burgues,
Martínez,
Brenha -
Tice,
Casillas.
The teams had chosen different formations for the match. The home team, Grilled Birds, went for a 2-5-3, while Esbao. has decided to play a 3-5-2 lineup. Grilled seemed to prefer attacking in the middle, using their divine (+8) (28) ability to great effect. After 2 minutes of play,
Chia Kwang Tse gave the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right. After 3 minutes,
Lawrence Lacy sprinted between the opposing defenders and laid the ball off to
Erik Casillas, whose shot was saved by the keeper. Esbao. leveled the score after 13 minutes to make it 1 - 1, as
Telésforo Burgues struck home after a fine midfield combination through the middle left him completely unmarked. Big paper red cards were being held up by the opposing supporters with 17 minutes on the clock after
Telésforo Burgues's mistimed tackle from behind. The referee only showed the Esbao. player a yellow card though. It was 1 - 1 at the break. Let's go to the Twittersphere to see what the fans think of the game so far! says Central attacks were the recipe of the day for Grilled, and they were successfully passing the ball from the wing into the middle at the behest of their coach. Grilled's
Chan Ze Han tried to break through the middle repeatedly, but the visitors' defenders were just too alert. When
Telésforo Burgues made yet another spikes-first tackle after 55 minutes, the referee was obliged to book the Esbao. player for the second time, which automatically ejected him from the game. Grilled players heard their coach's words ringing in their ears and steered their wing attacks to the middle instead.
Chad Thach is making an astonishing dash. The fans are chanting his name. You can hear it reverberate around the stadium. Now a manic sprint up the middle and into the box. Oh! He's thrown open the door! He's thrown open the door, shot the ball through, and slammed the door shut on Mr. Tumnus! Grilled has taken the lead 60 minutes into the match, 2 to 1. There'll be no Turkish Delight after the match for the keeper!
Lawrence Lacy was doing a great job on the wing, sending in a brilliant pass to his teammates in the middle, but
Marco Brenha seemed unable to profit from this excellent service. Grilled's
Chia Kwang Tse swung in a good chance from the left, but the visitors' defense were able to clear the ball. Grilled managed to extend their lead to 3 - 1 when
Lim An Keng slid in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team's goalkeeper. Esbao. fought on, and after 78 minutes,
Joshep Felix was able to increase the goal tally to 3 - 2 after some excellent moves on the right side were finished off with a smart lob. With the clock showing 80 minutes, the fourth official held up the substitution board.
Chan Ze Han looked to see that it was his number in red, so he made his way over to the sideline and swapped out for
Bilal Mohammad Harun, though he would have liked to continue. As
Chan Ze Han left the field, the coach signaled to
Aw Keng Chuan to start taking the set pieces that occurred. Grilled's
Hwang Teck Fu set up a perfect opportunity for
Chia Kwang Tse, but the latter failed to score.
Chia Kwang Tse should probably have put his team up another goal after 82 minutes, but some great goalkeeping by
Fabiano Brugna kept the visitors in the game. After 85 minutes, the Grilled coach wanted to see a new face on the field, waving
Hwang Teck Fu off.
Paulino Trindade took his place. The referee decided to let play continue for an additional 2 beyond the regular 90 minutes. The match ends 3 - 2. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that Grilled would have 54 percent possession in this half was spot on!
Lim An Keng performed admirably for Grilled. You can tell it was nickel beer night yesterday at the local bar because
Bilal Mohammad Harun seemed to stumble all over the pitch. Most important Esbao. player was
Mykel Tice. I can't remember
Joshep Felix ever having a worse night than he just had.
