Brompton Bruised
Subri Suffers
Grilled made easy work of amateur Western team Brompton Rovers, but paid dearly for it as star striker
Subri bin Ku Zainol suffered a long-term injury after bagging four goals in a straightforward massacre. Three of the first four goals belonged to Subri, as he completed his hat-trick by the 31st minute with a teasing chip.
Hu Huihong might have gotten his first professional goal with just three minutes on the clock, thanks to the generosity of teammate Deme who passed the ball on despite having a good sight of goal, but Hu couldn't live up to expectations as he pumped the ball weakly wide. In his defence, even Rotteveel was off-colour in the horrible conditions, landing on his backside with the goal at his mercy once.
Dani Spirig was in his element though, and looped a beautiful volley over opposition goalie Mohd Zaidi Mantali, who looked especially vulnerable to high balls. And while Hu was denied,
Tao Tingfeng would get his first senior goal, as he used his height to great effect in heading in the fifth. The 45 year-old
Lan Tuan-Mu scuffed in the sixth, before the hosts' Suhairi bin Yusof was hauled up for an ugly foul on Seng-Huat which was due a yellow card.
There would be no rest for the beaten-looking Brompton, as Subri showed off quick footwork on the slippery grass to sneak his fourth goal in. The mood, already less than cordial, took a turn for the worse as Quah fell on Shahril Faizal Mail in what looked like an accident, and refused to apologize as the Brompton player accused him from the ground. Mohd Al-Rifaie bin Ismail needed little excuse to come on for the winded Shahril, who needed just as little excuse to depart.
Tingfeng might have gotten two for himself, once again using his head, as he bravely stooped low to direct a waist-high cross goalwards. He was unlucky as it went straight to Mohd Zaidi, who instinctively bashed it into midfield. Mohd Zaidi did not have the same fortune against Rotteveel, who took advantage of the drying conditions to blaze a path into the box and lay the ball into his far corner.
Subri bin Ku Zainol, who had been outstanding and a certainty for the Man-of-the-Match award, was then cruelly taken out of the match, as his shin went direct into the heel of a defender as he tried a snap-shot. Blood showed on the forward's socks, as his shinguards appeared to have slipped sometime during the game. Hjortlind came on, but it was Tuan-Mu and Darong who would finish the scoring, with Suhairi bin Yusof sent off for a second yellow late on.
