Some thought that it would never happen, but the ageless Martinsson had indeed left, and named Maikel as his successor. Those are some inhumanly large boots to fill, but a scoring debut against reigning S-League champions Chemistry bodes well for the hard-running, hard-shooting Dutchman.

Martinsson proved prescient as Rotteveel started his second full season with the Birds by scoring in ten consecutive matches, with FC RaZer Infernus the only S-League club he failed to find the net against, en route to scooping the Golden Boot by three goals.

The Dutchman largely lived up to Martinsson's predictions, and came extremely close to overhauling the Swede both in raw statistics and fan popularity. Unfortunately, while he never wanted for individual accolades, the medals he truly desired eluded him during his stay.
