Starfall
One-sided Array
The S-League would come roaring back in the second round of the World Battle tournament, as they made a complete sweep of the Cameroonian II.3; Grilled Birds did their part with a 6-0 crushing of DragStar Club, who are affiliated with Romania's Marmaris Club.
The Cameroonian II.3 had, like the S-League, lost in the first round, but DragStar had acquitted themselves respectably against Uzbek II.3 representatives Rospi di Moynaq, even rushing to a two-goal lead through Arvid Zarp and José Maine, before yielding the draw. The Danish Zarp, widely considered the best player on the team together with strike partner Jindřich Hochman, would try to repeat his cracking start - only for his team to be swamped by the Birds from the outset.
DragStar's orthodox 3-5-2 seemed pretty compatible against Grilled's usual formation, but the trouble was that in one-on-one contests, the Birds' men by and large held the advantage over their players. Hansruedi Mora, for example, is a very well-regarded Swiss midfielder in his age bracket, but he would simply be entirely overmatched by the vastly more experienced
Bilal Mohammad Harun. This repeated itself all over, as when
Vikram Mudaliar feinted and bypassed Rivo Tamm, to deposit the opening goal in the seventh minute.
The situation would barely get any better for DragStar, as the Birds kept on with their guileless approach, as it looked more than sufficient to unravel their foes for the day.
Chan Ze Han would unlock the defence with a superb display of close control in the 22nd minute for 2-0, and the match would be effectively decided, when
Moey Xin Seng's header from a looping cross took a nick off Vojislav Lemić, and thus eluded Ivano Scirgolea in the 33rd.
Chan was exactly the sort to dump on an opponent when they were down, unfortunately for DragStar, and the Grilled Number Eleven made full use of
Salah Kamel's interception from DragStar's restart, to further pad the team's lead.
Kalle ter Berg would attempt to join in on the fun, but his fine drive from a stuttering advance through the middle, would crash off the upright.
The second half would see little change in the balance of play, as the Birds kept on forcing it down the centre, secure in the knowledge that the game had long been settled. This was hardly a desirable scenario for the DragStar defenders to work under, and
Vikram Mudaliar was understandably a lot more exuberant than any of his markers as he kept attempting to dribble through, before succeeding a second time 53 minutes in.
It would be six for Grilled about three minutes later, as
Kalki Parvathaneni's diligence down the left would earn his team a free-kick, as Abdur-Rahim Khattak was roused to trip him. The free-kick would be somewhat-unimaginatively rammed straight at goal by
Mateja Jeftić, and while the initial shot would be painfully absorbed by Víctor Manuel Mosqueda,
Bilal Mohammad Harun would outmuscle Tamm to thrash the ball past Scirgolea.
Zarp's best opportunity for a consolation would come from their restart here, but
Manuel Vadalà would prove alert to the danger, this being one of the very few occasions he had been called upon. Kalki and
Sølve Lunde would be replaced by
Gilbert Webb - making his long-awaited return from injury - and
Bernie Egan for the final twenty minutes, with
Heng Dong Chu also coming on for
Salah Kamel a while later. Egan would make the most of his time with a cheeky poach in the final minute, which then saw Arvid Zarp booked for protesting what he thought was a foul in the built-up.
