Diablos Defanged
The Farmer Bunnies progressed unexpectedly to the semifinals of the Merlion Cup, as they upset Colombian III.4 visitors La Banda Del Diablo F.c 2-1 on a very fine day for football. Few had given the Buns much of a chance today, but they would all be left eating their words in an amazing start to the match.
Toh Eng Guang bundled an
Amaya Ravula-touched corner home for a dream second-minute opener, and after Sylwester Wilga's effort was cleared next, the Buns were able to take a quick throw due to an unnoticed slight deflection off a Diablo man... which had
Ong Li Jing make it 2-0 on the break.
The Diablos would again punch back with great haste, and although Mirko Perón's attempted assist to Wilfried Mathan would be blocked back, the prospective Colombian international continued the run himself, and smashed it past
Gilberto Sorondo. The remainder of the game would be a letdown in contrast, with
Amirul Jufri Khairil probably getting the best opportunities, only to be kept out twice by Israeli goalkeeper Bari Mann.
It remained that the Buns were through against all expectations, though, and while they will again be long shots against Iranian III.9 outfit Perspolis I.F.C, who defeated FC Phondle 2-1 on a second-half rally, none of the team were particularly bothered by now. "It's all a bonus to us." fullback
Lau Keng Kwang claimed. "They're the ones under all the pressure!"
