Leaving It To Luik
The Farmer Bunnies took no chance with the goalkeeping quandary, as they brought in
Kalle Luik from FC Hellish Angels, in an emergency S$5.6 million purchase. The Buns will be the tenth club that Luik has served in a long career, with the last six spent in the upper reaches of his native country's leagues.
The big trophies had long eluded him, though, and the closest he had gotten to such glory was a short stint with Lazio-based former Italian cupwinners Express Road. Even then, their best days had been behind them. With the Buns, however, he might yet strike gold on his debut - keep a clean sheet against JUtd, and the Emerald Challenger Cup must be all but his.
"It's not a given that
Vivian Grubenmann won't recover in time, but we aren't leaving it to chance."
Dalibor Kostadinović explained. "Kalle has enormous experience on his side, and is currently on an excellent run, which was why we chose him over other possibles such as Witold Kaleta and René Drmola. He might even compete with Grubenmann for the starting spot - we're open like that."
The Buns would have to contend with Brazilian fifth division side Esporte Clube Gerebas, whose head coach and former Polish youth international Andrzej Bilicki was nearly as determined to get Luik their way. Lagambanese (Italian Division Six) and KS JUDOVIA (Polish Division Three) were also in the running, but bowed out relatively early.
