No Abd Rahim Return
Grilled were thwarted in their bid to take former youth midfielder Abd Rahim bin Othman back to the club, as they were outbid by struggling Portugeuse Division Five side, Bagaço Team. Abd Rahim had failed to impress during his tenure in Iran with Chogha FC, who got him on a S$2 million transfer from local club UEFA, but nevertheless attracted much attention, with the minimum price of S$600 000 met by several clubs.
The Birds however looked poised to cut the deal at S$1.5 million, when Bagaço Team came in with an improved offer. Grilled took the bidding to the probably overblown S$2 million level, before U2fans, another Portuguese club, entered the fray. Bagaço finally closed the deal at S$2.156 million, which sees Grilled receive some S$43 120 as Abd Rahim's original club.
"We thought that it would be an opportunity to welcome back one of our old boys on the cheap, but it was not to be." coach
Han Lik-Tsun, who oversaw the bidding, sighed. "Still, it's nice to see that Abd Rahim remains very much in demand. Perhaps he might yet come home one day."
