Asher Goes Vile
In a trade that rocked the Grilled fan community, Eurasian midfielder
Asher Stanton was flogged off to local Division II.1 high-flyers FC ~ vile after whirlwind negotiations, during which they traded Patrik Godner to ex-Saudi Arabian champions Riyadh Allstars to raise the required monies. Many supporters were up in arms over the sale of the homegrown player, and incensed by the realisation that Asher went for just S$9.7 million.
"It's a crying shame," angry diehard Netaji Anand, 17, raged. "I thought the club would be purchasing new guys to make themselves stronger, and here we are letting our best ones go for bargain basement prices. If they don't bring a really big name in this transfer window, I'll write off next season straightaway."
Grilled revealed that Stanton had generated quite a bit of interest among local clubs, among them Herron and FC Bellerio, but a deflated midfielder market meant that Grilled could not raise his price any further. "There's been a pronounced slump, but in the end it was a fair price. FC ~ vile got a good deal, but we could really use the extra funds and wage savings too."
Both official club sources and
Asher Stanton refused to divulge which party had first brought up the matter, but Stanton hinted that it was to both sides' mutual benefit. "There are plenty of youngsters who can play in the middle of the park coming up. Rottman and Paullin are there, and Han Kok is far better than I ever was at his age." Stanton said.
"I love the club and wouldn't say I've outgrown it, but a time comes when the new midfielders have to be given a chance, and the older leaves drop off. I think I've reached my pinnacle, but I'll serve FC ~ vile for as long as they want me. I'll show no quarter if my new side ever meets Grilled in the Cup."
Asher leaves his first club with 97 competitive appearances, but a surprisingly low total of only eight goals, including one in his very last match against Geylang Eagles United. With his going, only defensive midfielder
Shen Kek-Tjiang remains of Grilled's famous quartet of Aznan, Zhan, Asher and himself.
