Grilled coach Frank Öhmo handed in his resignation out of the blue, citing personal commitments for his inability to function in his current capacity. His domestic problems are not unknown, as he has a young family struggling to settle in Singapore. The board accepted his letter after some discussion on his successor, and also approved his remaining as the team's third-choice goalkeeper while he considers his future options.

The club might have been reluctant to let him go on short notice, had not an able replacement sprung up before their eyes. It emerged that skipper Luis Alcántara had obtained his coaching certification on the sly, and as a bonus was already intimately familiar with the other players and their style. A word-of-mouth agreement was reached in minutes, after which the Argentinean defender was briefed extensively on his new role in the club.
