So Long, Kole And Joe
Grilled bade farewell to two of their best-loved footballers, as Bulgarian midfielder
Milen Kolesov and Canadian striker
Joe Stern departed for greener pastures.
Kolesov commanded a fee of just over $3.1 million, from Tahitian side Hurstville Boys High School. Hailing from the Oceanian Division Four, Hurstville prevailed after intense late negotiations with FC FCK, Lundebjerg FC and Team Goal Performance, all Danish Division Five clubs. Numerous other outfits made concrete moves, including Swiss Division Five side CF Torrejon, Dutch Division Seven side S.E.V. and Finnish Division team Six Turvakkoranta.
Kolesov's agent Kim Huo-weng was thrilled at the extermely generous valuation of his charge, and admitted that he had felt the initial S$1.7 million Kolesov was offered for a fair armount. "It must have been his polished passing skills that interested all those suitors," Kim guessed. "He'll be right at home as a playmaker just behind the front two, somewhere he never got used in Singapore. My phone was ringing off the hook all day, listening to enquiries."
31 year-old
Joe Stern, with his best years clearly behind him, was flogged off at a discount over his original transfer price. South African Division Three club United Kuilsriver and Romanian Division Six side Night_Elf_Warriors were willing, and the fleet-footed veteran had nearly booked his tickets to Eastern Europe when the Zurich-based FC Flunsi cut a deal. Stern joined up with the Swiss Division Five side, and was assigned the No. 18 jersey.
