Quah Is In!
Quah Han Kok was on cloud nine when he opened a letter informing him that he had been selected for the National U-20 side. Club officials were no less delighted, as this marks the first time that a native boy had been so honoured.
Hidde van Liere was Grilled's first ever U-20, but he was at the tailend of his own international career when Grilled signed him.
"It's just surreal, it's perfect." was all a choking Han Kok managed to blurt out before being lifted away by an entourage of fellow footballers, among them van Liere and Siu-Yue, who had his own hopes cut short by injury.
Some were less surprised than others, head coach
Luis Alcántara being one of them. "I felt it was a matter of time really," the grinning Argentine revealed. "Most Singapore soccer publications rated him the best midfielder among the current 19 year-old crop. With the national youth team on a high after getting to the third round of the World Cup, it's about the best time possible to get asked to carry the torch."
"We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that he starts this Friday's friendly against U-20 England," Alcántara added. "We have no doubt at all that he'll shine and usher in a whole new chapter in the history of Grilled Birds."
