Terbrüggen On Alert
Gamma Stadium hosted German side Wolke Sieben as it witnessed a clash of styles between the Spanish-Asian blend that former coach Qi Haupai had so painstakingly crafted and standard German industry. The disparity in size between the individuals was rather evident, and was made fully apparent when burly wingback Patrick Lensing hardly jumped to redirect a corner neatly to the feet of fellow wingback Rene Markschies, who calmly dispatched the ball over a sliding Balencia in the tenth minute.
Hobson attempted a straight reply, but his haste made him take his shot far too early. Grilled made some pretty plays, but were overwhelmed physically by the stronger Germans and were punished for a schoolboy mistake in the 23rd minute when Tuan-Mu and
Xing Hua sheparded an overhit goal kick rather casually towards Balencia. Midfielder Rupert Terbrüggen surged forward and cut between the defenders who were in two minds whether to clear the danger, before hitting a knee-high daisycutter to Balencia's left. Grilled began to get the hint that tougher play was needed, and through some gritty tackling destroyed most of Wolke's passing rhythm.
The second half began more brightly as the Grilled players came out constantly nipping at their opponents, not giving Wolke maneuvering space and trying to leverage on their own strengths in agility and acceleration. Seng-kar got away on the right and rolled a ball to Hobson who found the far corner of the net in a heartbeat. Most of Grilled's players were visibly beginning to get exhausted from their exertions, and that may have been part of the reason why Tellskär clattered to the ground after a brief shrug from Lensing.
Ignoring his pleas for a free kick, the referee instead gave him a yellow card for playacting. A dreadful sense of deja vu crept through the assembled Grilled fans in the 79th minute as a plodding Tuan-Mu chased down a long ball by Zeller from deep within his own half. Closely followed by Terbrüggen, Tuan-Mu mishit a pass out wide terribly and Terbrüggen simply latched onto it before rounding the hapless Balencia for his second poach of the night, leaving Grilled coach Shung-Tat visibly disgusted on the sidelines.
