Moey Without End

Grilled Birds would not escape defeat in the second day of the Supporter Week Trophy either, as they lost 2-4 to former Norwegian cupwinners Bøttesamlerne in the second match of the day. While in Division Three now, Bøttesamlerne retained undeniable talent in homegrown club icon and captain Arne Walderhaug, who was ably assisted by Manuel Lafaye and Roelf van Dalen in midfield. Kalki Parvathaneni tied it up at 2-2 with nine minutes to go, after Bhavya Panigrahi's early penalty was overturned in minutes, but a late double whammy by Adriano Manuel Barata and Christian Schei knocked the Birds out.

It would start out rather better against German IV.8 side and former Rubin-Pokal holders FC Schönbornring, with Moey Xin Seng opening the scoring in a 5-2 win. Shekar Kannan was the star then, as he added to his instrumental final ball to Moey, with two very well-taken goals on the move. There was no denying it was all Moey's against Zurich-based Die Unendlichen, though, as the fifth divisioners were whipped 8-1. Half of those would be down to the Grilled skipper, though Unendlichen actually held out until the 35th minute, and briefly equalized through Pasquale Zuriago.

Chu Xin Lee, who bagged the Birds' seventh from distance just two minutes after replacing Teo Chuan Yong, was only too eager to laud his captain. "He's thirty-six, but you wouldn't know that from how he trains. That's Moey for you!"

The Buns went from a first-day wipeout to a more-respectable two draws and a win, albeit with yawn-inducing null results against Swedish V.1003 side Villa Hammarstrand, and Liechtenstein Division Four champs Blau Weiss Wadenbeiss. There would at least be a 73rd minute yellow card for Otto Schädler in the latter to break the tedium, as the Buns again launched numerous counters from deep, only to have Aitykul Zaripbekov strike the pick of those either onto the woodwork, or to the goalkeeper.

It was a great relief, then, as Farmer Bunnies found their first goals of the tournament at the seventh calling, with Vitaliy Efendiev and then Mushtag Al-Nameeri finally finding the net against another Swedish Division Five club, Grabbarna BK. Gilberto Sorondo will probably be the most pleased of the bunch, though, as he gets three clean sheets under his belt.

The reversal would also apply to Grilled International, whose proud first-day record could not be maintained. They would be humbled in succession, first narrowly by Guam II.1 side Skyfighter United, in a 2-3 defeat. The former Guam Emerald Challenger Cup winners would come from behind twice, and eventually win it from a monster Volker Heyden volley, in the second half.

Latvian Virsliga runners-up FK Pissaks were next, and International could at least not feel too bad in repeating the 2-3 outcome against the almost-national champions, who finished just two points behind JurBer. Li Xin Chi will remember this outing fondly, as he made the most of his chances against FK Pissak's usually-reliable backline for an unlikely brace, but Thomi Baumann, Ludovic Revest and then Roman Igl would keep the Latvians in front.

A return to winning ways would finally come versus German VI.569 winners The Watcher, as Osertz Indurain and Ragib Banović found braces in an entertaining 5-2 victory. It was never quite set in stone, however, and The Watcher could have made it yet more dramatic, had they been more clinical towards the end.
