Chu Chi Reborn
The final day of the current Hattrick International leagues season would see Grilled International send
Wang Chu Chi on his way, as the 34 year-old left his Brunei posting for the first time. Turkish third divisioners Phoenix FK, freshly promoted and having won the Teselli Kupası some years ago, would match International's S$4 million valuation. This made him a part of Iranian gaffer Payam Seifoleslam's latest shakeup, which saw Sri Lankan first team goalie Isuru Gomis leave and Croatian replacement Branislav Safundžić come in on separate eight-figure deals.
Wang admitted that he had never expected to play elsewhere, but considered it part of destiny now. "I've done all I could for Grilled International, so seeing the world for a few years doesn't feel that bad." he noted. "Of course, it will be a whole new environment, but Payam was very friendly."
His peers such as
Wang Hanxuan, Hardi, Li and Atzenhain may see their own transfers dragged into the new campaign, with no takers at
Didi Reidenbach's initial asking prices. The embattled head coach indicated that he was willing to be flexible, but not by too much. "Their quality is undeniable." the Swiss said. "If anything, they are a bargain at these prices!"
International's relegation has seen them having to negotiate a reduced sponsorship contract with Zero Sum Games, worth just over S$90,000 per league match - which means that cutting the wage bill is literally a life-or-death matter for the club. The Buns are in contrast sitting pretty with a five-figure weekly payroll, as they secured a jersey deal with Gustaf & Son Legal Advisors. "I'm not sure we're their target market exactly." one fan commented on the club forums. "But money is money."
Grilled Birds are on a comfortable wage situation too, fortunately with a recession likely coming and all, as they extended their agreement with MegaBrain Research. "It was the smart thing to do."
Tian Yonghang deadpanned. "And now, if you'll excuse me, I have a team to manage."
