Pek Goes Dutch
Grilled Birds defensive midfield academy trainee Pek Shi Boon was accepted by Dutch VI.474 club Dinamo Tomsk on a free transfer today, as head coach Moutassim El-Mouji continues on his quest to build a team from the ground up. Pek had been spotted by Chicken Wings scout Mok Feng De tidying up in a neighbourhood tourney, and he honed his skills quite adequately with the youth side.
Mok noted that Pek didn't quite fit the mould of his preferred position. "You'd expect so-called water-carriers to be the hard-running, hard-tackling, all graft type, but Pek has that sense of grace about him, not that he's lazy. The best sweepers had it too, it remains to be seen of Pek can match up to them."
Pek's place with Dinamo Tomsk is hardly a given either, given how former hot young stuff Attilio Maccarinelli had just been moved on for cheap, following a season of inconsistency. Hometown lad Merlijn Haalboom hadn't been spared either, with the 19 year-old now in France with FC Tripel LeFort. The teenager acknowledged what he was up against. "Thre's nothing for it but to try my best."
