Cheong Comes Good
Former Rancher Rabbits trainee Cheong Sze Fu, who begun his career two seasons ago by moving to Spanish club hospi on a free transfer, has just shattered the S$5 million transfer mark as a 19 year-old. He had been building steadily towards it too, with a half-million move to German side 1.FC Kühnitzsch and then a million-dollar transfer to Italian club Bocciofila Selvaggia, but this latest switch from Lombardia to Turin's Torino a.c. truly took the cake.
Farmer Bunnies have been tracking their protégé's development with interest, and head scout Yip De Da saw this as evidence that Singaporean players could still make it overseas, with diligence and a slice of luck.
"Cheong in truth was not one of those who made waves locally, but just look at how far he's come, with the right coaching and environment! His frame probably helped, but foreign players simply don't get this far in Europe, outside of good old-fashioned hard work."
