Lee Is In
While the club have been highly concerned about the unlucky
Woon Shun An's condition, it is clear that they were not leaving their best title shot in years to chance, as
Djan Bacelar wasted no time in confirming the arrival of 27 year-old former national youth playmaker
Lee Lee Hao from Olimpique Severne for S$5.2 million.
Bacelar hastened to reassure supporters that Lee was not meant as Woon's replacement, despite the timing. "We have had our eye on Lee for months, but had to work out some... entanglements with Olimpique, over the price."
"This deal stands on its own merits, as we see Lee being an important part of our side for the next five seasons at the least. It doesn't mean that we will be moving any of our other midfielders on, just that if that does happen, any transition will be smooth."
Zhao Jing Wei, for one, embraced the competition. "We'll need as many capable men here as possible if we are to achieve anything, and if I lose my role to Lee in the future, well, so be it."
The longtime Joker 9 favourite, who completed nine and a half seasons with them before hopping over to eestrella, pronounced himself pleased to be back in Singapore after his Italian stint. "It's been an experience, but there's no place like home."
Lee will become the third ex-international in a row to don Grilled's No. 17, which has been unclaimed since Maldivian winger Shiya Shaahee vacated it three seasons prior.
