Divers Find Treasure
S-League club Pearl Divers became the second winners of the Singapore Masters today, as they were flawless in the shootout after a gritty, tense 120 minutes against singnet_utd. It was characteristic of recent games between the two, and in the end it was former national youth goalie Manzoor Azwira Mohd Hassan who became a hero with two penalty saves.
Observers praised Divers coach Nechifor Gherman for creating a team that consistently played better than the sum of their parts, though given that they were anchored by much-capped defender Mak Chao Puay, would have been a pretty good deal nonetheless. "There were stronger midfields than theirs in the tournament, but Divers just clicked when it mattered." popular TV pundit Richmond Hee Chen commented.
