Prabhu Posts Mark
Hariharan Prabhu set a new bar by being admitted to the Chicken Wings youth academy at the tender age of fifteen years and three days, younger than any member before him, if club records are correct.
While the legally acceptable minimum is fifteen years, Grilled's policy of recruiting based on ability as well as the admittedly shallow local talent pool have meant that most trainees are sixteen or older when they arrive, but Prabhu left chief scout Tham Beng Li with no doubt as to his potential.
Tham, who spotted the teenager when happening by a game between temple devotees, was struck by his sense of when to pass the ball. "Many good players his age try to dribble out of everything, but Prabhu even draws opponents to him to open up space!"
The shy youngster has been told that he will start up front against the midfield-light Jeon Ji Hyun FC on Sunday. "From what he says, he's only been on the wings, but I think he has the instincts for a central role." Tham said.
