Mayur Certain
Grilled continued their shopping by picking up eighteen year-old local Indian prospect
Mayur Gudivada from Division Three Pasir Ris club Dodogado for S$156000, outbidding Hungarian side Nyírjákó along the way. Gudivada impressed Grilled scouts with his pace, and overall movement when on the offensive.
Han Lik-Tsun hinted that Gudivada would be Grilled's last youth purchase for some time, as they have set aside space in the squad for some of the best and brightest from the Chicken Wings. "It's probably not a surprise if I were to say that Tang Hengcai, Krishnan Adabala and Hung Wee Li have all earned themselves a shot." Han smiled.
"True, none of them are U-20 potential, but they know that and are willing to work hard. Our scouts reported that there is no lack of youngsters we can mould to our new style of play, for instance Beat of Angel's Ge Yongming and Isle of Flames' Sng Chang Su, but there are only so many places available."
Part of Gudivada's fee was covered by the sell-on clauses on former academy graduate Mark Matthews, who moved from German club Dithmarscher Mountains FC to Polish side Partyzant Szymborze for S$2 million, having been converted into a solid defender. "We were thinking of bringing him back, but as previously stated, we are currently full up in defence. A pity." Han added.
