Ross Drafted
A few days after newbies are newbies spent a total of well over S$23 million in an astounding twelve minute spree, on defenders Ritchie Bradley and Alejandro Hijano, and goalkeeper Massimo Lupi, Grilled signed 24 year-old Austrian fullback
Walter Ross in a S$2.08 million move that looked paltry by comparism.
The signing appears to be Han's only one for the preseason, and with Italian entertainer
Ciro Penati being placed on the transfer list, it wasn't one that most fans had been waiting for.
"Look, I know we're often transfer muppets, but even a blind man can see that it's practically suicide to wade into the new season with our not-very-good midfield one year older and not reinforced." one message on the club forum read. "Did some money-grubbing tycoon just buy the club to siphon funds from it or what?"
Han pointed out in his defence that most of Grilled's league opponents have not exactly been active in the market either, with heimu XI's S$5.8 million capture of Colombian defender Sebastián Guillermo Belén the only other major transfer of note.
"Expensive isn't always good, and Ross is the sort of versatile player that we like." Han said. "As usual, we were looking out for local talent, such as Mohd Syamsuri bin Halim, who has even scored against our Chicken Wings youth team when he was with Dead Poets Society. Unfortunately, as usual, he was slightly overpriced."
