Han Lik-Tsun threw yet another curveball with his S$652 000 signing of 27 year-old Romanian utility player
Niculae Stanca, who has been known to appear nearly anywhere on the pitch, but is most frequently seen at the wingback position.
The Romanian had been heavily recruited by a host of other sides, most notably FC Dizzi of the Belgian Fifth Division, but also Foladshahr FC, F.C.BARTHEZ, -Wald-Wichtel-Zwerge-, FC Bokombrady and Rødvig fisker mafia.
Stanca's arrival, after Han had repeatedly stated that he was not looking for new additions, was soon explained. "Niculae will slot in here and there, but his main role is that of assistant coach." Han revealed. "I needed a right-hand man, and since Quah had no interest in entering this line, the opening had to be filled from outside."
A major consideration in the signing was Stanca's preparatory coaching badges, taken in Israel on his own initiative, while on the books of Division Six club F.C.S Hanita. His fluency in English, German from his short stint at Dortmund side TuS Germania Schwerte, and a smattering of other languages also played in his favour.
"It was close between him and another defender, Leonardo Castellanos, but Stanca was far more eager to take the job, and that sealed the deal." Han said. "Also, he's a lot further along in terms of paper qualifications - I daresay he could be eyeing my job in a season or two!"
