Geylang 0 - 5 Grilled
474 spectators arrived at Geylang Eagles United Arena, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.
Abel Chozas was the appointed referee with assistance provided by
Julien Bernard and
Ingmar Sutter. Geylang had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players had been chosen: Morais - Cassen, Rankin, Ranen - Chang-Sik, Thaitayan, Spruijt, Gunnarsson - Ser-Kiat, Hoang-Huan, Yueh-shiou.
Grilled had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Harlow - Bona, Tuan-Mu, Falkbo - Han Kok, Stanton, Rottman, Kek-Tjiang, Siu-Yue - Langeland, Martinsson.
Counter-attacking seemed to be the preferred strategy of Geylang. This was a good period for the visitors, with several opportunities to take the lead, particularly when
Jan Langeland slipped through the defense on the right to come up alone against
Daniel Morais, but the home side's keeper showed his lightning reflexes. 14 minutes into the game,
Jon Andrea Rottman almost gave the visitors the lead, as he clipped a delicate lob over the keeper, but the ball glanced harmlessly off the crossbar. With 14 minutes played, the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending.
Ola Martinsson put the ball away for 0 - 1. The game had been on for 18 minutes when
Lan Tuan-Mu broke through on the right, upping the score for Grilled to 0 - 2, much to the home crowd's dismay.
Jon Andrea Rottman was, after 25 minutes, almost able to extend the visitors' lead with a well placed diving header after the ball had looped into the centre, but home side's keeper
Daniel Morais made the save. The teams went for the halftime break at 0 - 2. Grilled held the ball, with a clear 59 percent of possession.
Asher Stanton increased the visitors' lead by putting a volley shot away on a pass from the right. 0 - 3. 75 minutes into the game, Grilled were awarded a penalty and
Ola Martinsson was able to increase the visitors' lead to 0 - 4 rolling the ball in by the right post. After this, Grilled lowered the tempo in order to concentrate on their defensive efforts.
Ola Martinsson came close to extending the visitors' lead when he found himself completely unmarked in front of the goal after a pass through the middle, but he lifted the ball over
Daniel Morais and it was a little too high and hit the bar.
Quah Han Kok of Grilled was able to make an impressive rush past the sluggish
Coen Cassen, which resulted in the 0 - 5 goal. Grilled came close to extending their lead as
Jörgen Falkbo delivered a low effort on goal from the right after 86 minutes, but the angle was too narrow and the shot went harmlessly into the side netting. Grilled held the ball, with a clear 59 percent of possession.
The most dominating Geylang player was without a doubt
Daniel Morais.
Henrik Ranen was a disappointment, however. Grilled's best player was
Shen Kek-Tjiang.
Lan Tuan-Mu on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 0 - 5.
