Lau Enters Hall
Former Farmer Bunnies great Lau Chang Wan would be indicted into the Buns' Hall of Fame immediately upon eligibility on retiring as player-coach for Danish V.235 club Dortmunderz, where he had spent over nine full seasons in that role, before leaving two days after his 52nd birthday. Despite his considerable talent - as reflected by over 460 matches for Farmer Bunnies and 29 national caps - he would never breach the S$1 million level for transfer fees, set on his departure to Belgium's El Shoto Loco.
"We should be so fortunate as to have another like him again." current Buns head coach and former teammate
Vishnu Tallapaka declared. "I haven't heard that much from Lau in the past few years... but now I know why: he's been busy!"
Lau's twilight stint in Denmark had seen him rack up a string of consistent mid-table finishes in Division Five, coming after a more-exciting few seasons in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with Hattrick International outfit Bayern Joli Bord, where he captured straight titles in the seventh and then sixth divisions. He would also earn a Division Six medal with El Shoto Loco, where he enjoyed the only hat-trick of his career, in a league opener against Fc Momalle.
Not that this will see the football-loving Lau step away from the game. "I'm now a referee with the local league system, so you chaps may see me around here and there." he smiled. "And to the youngsters, this geriatric uncle might still last longer than you!"
