Ghanem Cometh
Sazwan bin Hj Muhd Salleh certainly did not aim low in his transfer market dealings, as he inducted former Tunisian youth international
Ghanem Ben Mimoun from Swedish Division V champions IFK Köttfärssås, for the quite reasonable fee of S$1.4 million. The soon-to-be-31 year-old Ben Mimoun had spent a full season with them, this after coming from Turkey's 1.FC Grevenbroich.
While the imposing Ben Mimoun's abilities at both the defensive midfielder and advanced sweeper roles are not in doubt, his commitment has as times been called into question, with his willingness to ask for a move leading to International being his ninth professional club already. Sazwan felt this a non-issue on his part. "It's a two-way street - if we can choose to take him on or not, why can't he decide when to leave?"
Ghanem will keep the Number Three jersey he wore at IFK Köttfärssås, with Sazwan confirming that he would be a likely starter against Club Cabanas in the cup on Tuesday. As to queries on how he would fit in, the head coach would remind that International had been fielding sides with all players of different nationalities. "He knows English, which is more than I can say for some of the others, at least when they first arrived. Then again, pointing solves most of it!"
