Pricked But Unarsed
Day two of the Supporter Week Trophy saw Grilled Birds kick off with a sound paddling at the paws of the Hedgehogs Brno, who had just taken their first Czech Division Three title. Though they edged possession by a hair, the Birds never found a good way through their opponents' prickly defence. While not scoring, former national U-20 forward Zbyněk Čtvrtečka and Iranian speedster Shervin Najjar pulled the strings, and Hedgehogs went five up before
Low Aik Jia managed a late 84th minute consolation.
It would only get better, as Grilled bounced back with a pair of high-scoring wins. Another Czech club would be in the way after the Hedgehogs calamity, but Division Four side FC Pahorky were easier to crack.
Tian Yonghang had what seemed a stonewall penalty claim waved away, but responded with a non-debatable goal within six minutes, and three second half strikes saw Grilled win 4-2.
This pitted the Birds against Yemeni Division Two team International Arsenal in their final game of the day, and
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim took over with a shining hat-trick, despite Arsenal going 2-1 ahead through Timmy Reuber in the 23rd. Mohd Safri stepped up soon after, and Cankut Peşmürde could do little against his craft in front of goal.
Farmer Bunnies remained undefeated through the day, as they began with a nice 2-0 victory over Polish Division Seven side Majtasy, in which
Gagan Shettar and
Enzo Paolo Panzarino scored. Panzarino would pick up where he left off, bending in a free-kick over the wall against Angolan Division Three Canoa Quebrada, but they would claw a 2-2 draw.
Finally, Guatemalan Fourth Division reps FC Hennes Vize-Tapir would adopt much the same tactics as the Buns, which resulted in a predictable yawn-inducing nil-all.
