Grilled Versus Farmer
The second edition of the Supporter Week Trophy saw Grilled Birds scheduled to face off against Farmer Bunnies in the opening round, which served to momentarily lift the gloom over The Cooking Pot, if not Carrot Field. The match finished more or less true to expectations, with Grilled strolling to a 5-0 whitewash,
Rinor Isufi standing in for
Tian Yonghang and notching a brace.
"We couldn't take it easy." Grilled striker
Mohd Safri bin Mohd Kassim, who got the first goal with a magnificent volley despite
Aswad Mohd Jafni's close attentions, said. "Farmer Bunnies closed down okay, but they have some distance to go."
Bunnies' former youth international
Sikong Darong concurred. "This was an experience for the squad, many of the kids haven't been exposed to opponents of this quality. Not that we've been winning too many friendlies, but it's still a step beyond the norm."
Grilled wound up making it a perfect four from four in their first day, next demolishing German Division Six club Presidogs Mannheim 7-0 in a brutal display that saw six players on the scoresheet. Slovakian top flight team NK Glista were stiffer opponents, but Mohd Safri won it against the lime-shirted Glista, sneaking it past Marjan Šimic in the 62nd minute.
There were rather more goals against Argentine Third Division reps FuLmInAtO FC, who succumbed to a razor-sharp
Tian Yonghang that appeared completely over his fateful penalty miss. They managed to pull two back after Tian completed his hat-trick, but by then were already five in the hock. It might have turned out otherwise had former Argentina national legend "
El General" Juan Sebastián Pavón scored in the first half, but
Wong Tian Han saved well from Pavón's ferocious homing curler.
Farmer Bunnies fared rather less impressively, as they were solidly beaten 0-3 by Sweden's Attitude FC and 0-4 by Germany's Jupp United following their defeat to the Birds. Counterattacks were few and far between as both clubs easily kept Bunnies hemmed in, and Anders Larsson, Tony Aushilfe and Fabian Oberschachner managed doubles against them.
They did finish the day with three points, thanks to fourth opponent johannas helden conceding a walkover after messing up their travel arrangements from Stuttgart, which the battered Buns were only too happy to accept.
